BUT HOW DO WE MAINTAIN PUBLIC SAFETY?
I work to maintain the public safety of our towns by:
focusing judicial resources on crimes of violence and felony level offenses;
diverting low level offenses to services and alternative programming options;
working with the Center for Restorative Justice to increase positive outcomes, decrease recidivism and ensure victim reparations;
aggressively prosecuting drug traffickers to decrease drug availability in our county;
working to help Vermonters that struggle with addiction to access treatment;
recommending incarceration for only those serious offenders that have been resistant to community supervision or rehabilitation;
seeking accountability on behalf of victims and the community; protecting children that have been neglected or abused in our community while continuing to work in a family-centered model;
directing offenders with mental illness or substance abuse disorder to services rather than jail;
recognizing that poverty is a pervasive factor in criminal behavior
collaboration with the many community partners that play a role in the community and the criminal justice system
